Introducing Principal Adjudicator, Louisa Trewartha.
Louisa Trewartha leads a diverse musical career as a composer, trumpet and cornet player, and educator. She completed a BMus at the University of Melbourne, with further studies at the Australian National Academy of Music, mentored by trumpet pedagogues David Elton and Tristram Williams. As an orchestral trumpet player Louisa has performed with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, and in the last decade has played in more than forty operas and ballets with Orchestra Victoria.
Outside of the orchestral world Louisa has been the Musical Director of the A-grade brass band Footscray-Yarraville City Band, regularly plays in recording sessions, chamber and brass concerts, and with choirs on piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn, and baroque trumpet. Louisa completed a Masters in Scoring for Film and Visual Media in 2016 at Pulse College, Dublin, and has participated in the Australian Composers School with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. She has been commissioned to write larger ensemble works for groups such as The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, and chamber works for Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Solstice Trio, and Three Shades Black. In May 2024 Louisa joined the Women in Brass ensemble as well as conducting her A-grade Brass Band work “Flight” for the Sydney Congress Hall performance.
As a music educator Louisa has tutored with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Orchestras, Young Mannheim Symphonists, and the Orchestra Victoria mOVe program. Louisa is a private trumpet teacher and regular adjudicator.
Yamaha Corporation actively endorses the vision of the UN Women’s thinktank – the Unstereotype Alliance. As part of this initiative, on International Women’s Day Yamaha launched "Women Who Make Waves 2024"; a series of interviews released on its website introducing women active in various fields of music around the world. Louisa Trewartha was included in this year’s selection of interviewees, where the theme was “Invest in women: Accelerate progress."
A Yamaha artist, Louisa performs on a YTR-9445NY (S-YM) C trumpet and a YCR-8335 (G) Bb Cornet. Louisa is thrilled to be invited to adjudicate at the QLD State Band Championships, where her attendance is supported by Yamaha Music Australia and Brass Music Specialists.
