Thuringowa Brass is a not for profit organization, but we are still required to hold insurance, pay for instruments, pay for affiliation to the State and local governing bodies, and provide new music, uniforms and other on going administration cost. We endeavour to conduct fund raising to cover these cost but always require more. So to meet the cost of operating Thuringowa Brass Band, we charge a fee of $380.00 plus GST to attend your function. This fee covers the provision of the band (generally 24+ players) to provide either a Marching Band, or concert gig, or a combination of both. for 1 hr or part thereof. Which is pretty cheap when you break the fee down. (about $16.00 per person)
Currently. Mr. Dave Finlay is the director of Thuringowa Brass. He is charged with the responsibility of selecting the music we play and the style in which we play said music. Our current Drum Major is Mr. John Jorgensen who is responsible for the marching discipline of the Band. Apart from these two key persons we also have a deputy conductor who assist the Musical director, he is Mr. Bruce Jurss.
Thuringowa Brass charges an annual fee for membership of $50.00 (incl of GST)
for a single membership or $100.00 per family membership (members of the same
family (mother, father and children of that union) Our financial year commence
1st June with membership payable in June. Our membership is pro-rata based on 6
months.
Due to the cost of instruments and uniforms, we also take a deposit of $25.00
per instrument assigned to members and $25.00 per uniform, these are re-fundable
on return of instrument and uniforms in good condition, fair ware and tare not
with standing.
Apart for providing music and entertainment for our local and nearby
communities. The band also involved in contesting. This ensures that the level
of performance is maintained or improved. It is also a very good way to meet
other people who share an interest in music, in particular Brass Bands. It
provides a chance to travel to other parts of our state and country, and who
knows maybe overseas, one day.
In order to meet these criteria, we endeavour to fund raise most of the cost
associated with contesting and travel, so there are raffles, and other
activities, such as our lucky envelope stall each year at the
Townsville/Thuringowa Show in July. We ask all members to help in these
activities for the future growth and well being of the Band.
