Sunshine Brass in 2012

Sunshine Brass have again planned an exciting program for 2012 with an emphasis on musical entertainment, extensive new repertoire and continuing traditional brass band programs.

Sunshine Brass is committed to annually performing four concerts in the local area, two concerts in regional areas, one tour and two competitions. Over the past two years Sunshine Brass have toured to Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Maryborough (twice), Gympie and Wondai. Regional concerts include Maleny and Cooroy. In 2012 further regional concerts will include Caboolture and Pomona.

After a very successful joint concert with the Salvation Army Band for the Flood Benefit concert in 2011; this year will again feature both the Sunshine Brass and the Nambour Salvation Army Band in a concert allowing the audience to experience the sound of combined brass bands in full flight. Although both bands serve a different purpose in the community they share the love of allowing the Sunshine Coast audience to hear brass bands at their best.

Maryborough will again be the venue for the Queensland Brass Band Championships on the long weekend in June. Sunshine Brass are the 2011 champions where the band was successful in gaining 3 trophies (out of 4) and two perpetual shields. Other bands in this competition included Toowoomba (2), Bundaberg (2), Gold Coast (2), Brisbane (5), Rockhampton and Maryborough (2). In 2012 all bands have to again learn new music for the occasion and perform at the highest standard.

Sunshine Brass will continue their regular series of concerts in Coolum Civic Centre, Noosa Bicentennial Hall, Kawana Lake Community Centre and Maroochydore RSL. These concerts will again feature a variety of styles and soloists. With so many exciting young musicians now regular members of the band, this allows an expansion of repertoire together with the continued exposure of the bands many soloists. School concerts will be added to the bands program for 2012 allowing students to hear the sound of a brass band and the exciting repertoire for students at this level. Sunshine Brass will continue their Anzac Day and Australia Day commitments.
