HISTORY

The Rum City Silver Band, as it is known today, had its origin as the Boys Band in 1934 with approximately 18 members under Band Master Jack Rees.

Jack Rees had a shop at the corner of Goodwin and Targo Street. He had a Trombone, Tenor Horn, Cornet and Bass, whilst other band members had their own instruments.

The bands raised money from penny raffles outside the Paramount Theatre, and first performed on ANZAC Day in Gin Gin in 1936 and continue this engagement to this day.  In the very early years, Millaquin Sugar Company provided a truck to transfer the Band, whereas now, we travel by modern coach.

Over the years the band has changed the name to Federal Band, and later on to become the Rum City Silver Band. We were still called Federal Band when we acquired our well-known band hall at which weekly dances were held.

The band still plays regularly at functions and competitions throughout South East Queensland, as well as many in our home town of Bundaberg.
