Toowoomba player - Cory Band appointment.
Toowoomba percussionist, JAMIE NUSS has been successful in being offered a vacant percussionist position with THE CORY BAND based in Wales (UK). He sent in some audition material (video etc.) and their Musical Director Phillip Harper, has offered him the position over many percussionists from the UK because he could see the potential. The Cory Band is the Number 1 rated brass band in the world.
To quote his biggest fan Mark Nuss: "Who would have thought that a kid from Toowoomba would go straight to the top! It's unbelievable."
Jamie started playing with Toowoomba's No. 2 Band in 2003 and quickly worked his way up to playing in the No. 1 Band as well. He is fairly well known now as a percussionist, but has worked hard to get to the standard he is at.
His last competition with Toowoomba was in Maroochydore on Sunday 20 July with Toowoomba Municipal No. 2 Band, where Jamie and Mark played their hearts out. The assembled audience of bandies from SEQ were happy to hear of his achievement and to celebrate his achievement.
The Cory Band will be doing quite a bit of publicity (over there) about this, because appointing someone from Australia is rare. It will be great publicity for Toowoomba, the Toowoomba Municipal Band and banding in Queensland and Australia generally.
Jamie will be heading for Wales in September, and we wish him every success!
