New By-Laws Released:

After much hard work and deliberation by the QBA Management Committee, the revised By-Laws have finally been agreed to and released.

Particular mention should go to Roger Roache, Alan Trueman and of course Annette Ries for their professionalism and hard work, without whom we would not now have By-Laws that are clear-cut and enable the enhancement of banding in Queensland. Noel Cassels' clear thinking and cool leadership also bears mentioning. Thank you to the Committee.

2009 State Championships:

It is official!  The 2009 State Championships will be held in Maryborough over the Queen’s Birthday weekend in June 2009.  The state titles will no longer be held over the Easter weekend as, each year, they conflict with the National Championships. The Nationals Championships will be held in Sydney over Easter 2009.

Committee Members Vacancies at 2008 AGM:

It has been indicated that some of the current Management Committee members will not be seeking re-election at the QBA AGM to be held 5th July 2008 at 3:00pm at the Brisbane Brass band Hall, 45 Stafford Road, Kedron.

All Management Committee positions become vacant each year at the QBA's AGM and the positions are: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, and up to six (6) members. Any two ordinary members (bands) of the Association can nominate any person to serve as an officer or other member of the Management Committee. There is no requirement that a person nominated for election or appointment to the Management Committee be a member of any band. The nomination must be in writing and the forms are on the "Forms for Secretaries" page on this web. The QBA Constitution is available from the "Rules & Constitution" page on this web.

The current QBA Management Committee would like to see representatives from as many bands as possible on the Management Committee and invite nominations from all bands. GET INVOLVED.

Proxy Votes – If your band cannot be represented in person, please complete a proxy voting form for another association to represent you. The QBA can help put you in contact with another association if your band needs representation. It is imperative that we have a quorum of one-third of all member associations represented at the AGM.

BRISBANE EXCELSIOR WINS THE NATIONAL TITLE FOR FOURTH TIME.

QBA would also like to praise the efforts of all our Queensland bands who competed at the Nationals. There were some outstanding performances in all grades, especially Townsville Brass who ran in 2nd to a very polished Pelorus Trust in B Grade and Surfers Paradise Brass who also ran 2nd in C Grade. Brisbane Brass Juniors unfortunately were the only band in their Junior C Grade section but received very high points from the adjudicator who was very complimentary of the exceptionally high standard. Well done!!

Bands on the QBA web are Cairns Municipal, Rum City Silver Band, Surfers Brass, Sunshine Brass, Thuringowa Brass, Bundaberg Municipal  & Warwick City Band

Having your band's own web domain:

• Saves changing web address if your Secretary changes or you need to change ISP due to change of address or change of job.

• E-mail addresses such as presidentyourbandname@qba.org.au that can be directed to the appropriate person as your committee changes.

• Easily updated by your Band (FrontPage or FTP).

• A central web address for all Queensland Bands.

• Small cost of $50 per annum (plus GST).

• Commonality of web address formats for Queensland Bands – e.g. www.qba.org.au/yourbandname
